'Be More Intentional': How GCs Are Building Camaraderie Amid Hybrid Work

"It is so much easier to trust someone at work when you know the whole person and trust them with your whole person," said Theresa Shea, general counsel of Utz Brands.

We’re glad to see some GCs acknowledge and begin to address exactly what we and so many executives — including some forward-thinking GCs — have been concentrating on for the last 2.5 years.

But the article’s strategies, like extra-long 1:1s and in-person gatherings, are the tip of the iceberg.

One-offs are great if the goal is to get started, but teams we work with find the most long-term success refocusing on mission, goals, and values and, as the article notes, trust, as a foundation for on-going work — not an endpoint.

We’re proud to work with GC and other teams in corporations to address these challenges, and to work with leaders who recognize that the goal isn’t to go back to pre-2020 culture.

Because pre-2020 engagement was — according to Gallup — around 35%. If you want more than 1/3 of your team engaged, quick wins aren’t enough to not just “go back” but to lead forward.
