Apochromatik Book Bundle 4: Career Planning
Today we discuss Career Planning.
You receive so much advice and so many directives from multiple sources on the proper way to plan your career. It is easy to wonder if it is even possible to plan your career. That is where many people push the things you need to do to the back burner, or worse yet give up on planning altogether.

University of Chicago Career Webinar...TODAY! | VOTW 111219
Does the thought of answering the question “where do you see yourself in five years?” in a job interview make you want to melt into the floor?

Leslie Knope Likes Masterminds*
*OK, so maybe I’ve never had a direct conversation with TV character Leslie Knope of “Parks and Recreation." Or with Amy Poehler. But I’m pretty sure if I could, they’d both be in favor of masterminds. And, as we know, waffles.
Is your annual review approaching?
Performance reviews are just around the corner in many firms and organizations. We often hear that people are “too busy” to prepare for their review. As we always say, that’s like saying “I was so busy packing for vacation that I didn’t have time to book a plane ticket.” Your review may be the one time all year when you and your boss both carve out time to sit and talk about your career. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by.

Job Search Month: Networking
September is a great time to jump start your job search, so throughout the month, we’re focusing on different elements of the process.
This week, we’re starting where your search should: networking. Whether or not you’re looking for a new position, no one has ever regretted having a strong network. From client referrals to moral support to, yes, help finding a new job, your network is an important asset you must invest in. In fact, studies show that 70 percent of jobs are filled through a networking contact, and the average annual income for workers who got their job with a referral is 6% higher than those who didn’t.

Today we continue our discussion on leadership. We’ve been talking about leadership skills and how you can improve yours. Looking for a beach read? This week we’re featuring 3 of the books we’ve recently read on leadership.

Stop Giving 110%
Stop Giving 110%.
Picture it: 1993. Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” is the song that proms are made of, and I’m interviewing for a college scholarship in my best dress from the pages of Seventeenmagazine with my hair freshly permed at Great Clips. My high school guidance counselor is one of the interviewers.
He asks, “What is your best quality?”
I proudly respond, “I give everything 110%.”

5 Tips for Summer Success: What Every Law Student Needs To Know
—Julie Schrager
For some students, summer is a break from school. But for many law students, particularly after their 2L year, summer is an important step on the path to a permanent position. And even if you are working at a law firm or other setting that either always gives offers or never gives offers, your second summer is an opportunity to develop some of the professional skills that you will need to be successful in whatever position you obtain after you graduate.
